Zooomr Mark III Launched

Zooomr have finally launched the Mark III version of their photo sharing website. As well as new interface, the site contains over 250 new enhancements and bug fixes. Nine months of hard work by solo programmer, Kristopher Tate has resulted in a site that will have Flickr looking over their shoulders.

Here’s what I’m looking forward to:

Market Place:
This is where Zooomr users can sell there photos from between $1 and $1000 with 90% of the sale price going to the user. You will not be able to sell your photos at the launch of Mark III, but you will be able to set prices ready for Market Place going on-line.

Zipline:
This is Zooomr’s first foray into social media, it shows a time line of your photos, along with comments you make about what you are up to (very Twitter). Apparently updates can be made by SMS and IM as well as on the site. This, linked in with those of your contacts can make for a very social experience.

Discover:
Photos can now be discovered by a huge amount of sorting methods. By colour, by place, by people, and even by awsomeness. Awsomeness it a great new feature (especially for us here at Zooomr Hits. It sorts photos by a new algorithm that should make it much easier to find the best photographs.

Groups:
At last users will be able to share their photographs with like minded others within the site. I suspect this is actually going to be the most used new feature of the site, and it’s actually part of what caused the delay from the site being launched last night, so it’s obviously very important to the guys over at the site too.

HQ Live: This new feature, powered by UStream will allow users to talk directly to Kris and Thomas in organised video chat sessions is the same way that they have been doing through the launch of Mark III.

Kris & Thomas have worked extremely hard on the re-launch of the site, but they wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of others, including Sun Microsystems, Zoho (who’s services I’m now using) and their friend Robert Scoble. Congratulations to all of them from us here at Zooomr Hits.

I am pleased to tell you that we've agreed to purchase Panoramio, a website based in Spain that links millions of photos with the exact geographical location where they were taken. (Our FAQ has all the details.)

Panoramio is a community photos website that enables digital photographers to geo-locate, store and organize their photographs -- and to view those photographs in Google Earth. Other users can search and browse Panoramio photos and suggest edits to the metadata associated with the photos. Panoramio also offers an API that enables web developers to embed Panoramio functionality into their websites.

Those of you already using Google Earth have no doubt noticed Panoramio's striking images documenting settings from all over the world, like moonscapes in Croatia, dramatic sunsets in Australia, and innovative architecture in the United Arab Emirates.

We've been working with Panoramio for some time -- its photos have been a default layer in Google Earth since the beginning of the year. This layer will remain in place as our teams work together toward further integrating this amazing content, generated by many, into our mapping technologies.
